Margarita, "the Caribbean Pearl"
is a 940 sq. km island located in the Caribbean Sea and northeast
of Caracas. Together with two other small islands (Coche and Cubagua)
comprise the Nueva Esparta State.
You can reach the island by commercial
and charter flights from major cities in Europe and US and by
national flights from major cities in Venezuela. Another way to
arrive the island from mainland is by ferryboat at Puerto La Cruz
Port (the region's major oil port and an active tourist and commercial
center) or by Cumana City (capital of Sucre State) and also from
the Guaira Port (Vargas State).
It is an internationally recognized
tourist destination for its beaches quality and it is considered
as the most important tourism zone in the country. It offers excellent
opportunities to relax and to practice water sports such as snorkeling,
scuba and windsurf.
The climate is hot with temperatures
between 34�C and 37�C and small rains between August and October.
All of its beaches can be visited the whole year.
